Stephene’s therapeutic approach is attachment and trauma informed, as well as deeply influenced by ongoing developments in neuroscience. Drawing from best-practice standards and evidence-based modalities she will collaborate with you on what fits you best. Below are several emphases that she combines in her practice, while focusing on the whole person.

THE VALUE OF THE THERAPEUTIC RELATIONSHIP

We all need to know we’re not alone. In fact, we are made for relationship and connection. The therapeutic relationship—based on trust—can be a powerful mode of healing. When we feel seen and heard, we feel safe to look at aspects of ourselves and our lives that might otherwise feel frightening. However, with support, it is not only possible to see these aspects of ourselves, it also can be freeing.

Story and Attachment

Maybe you’re in a season of life when you need to look at, listen to, and delve into your own story. Let’s be curious together— considering your strengths, joys, and unique personality, as well as your losses, struggles, and traumas. All of this gives insight into the present to help you create positive, healthy connection to yourself and those around you, as you walk forward with your hopes and dreams.

MIND-BODY RELATIONSHIP

Your mind and body work together. Let’s look at that relationship so you can learn how to better care for yourself in ways that nourish your whole person. This may include incorporating practices from yoga and EFT tapping*. In addition we’ll consider diet, sleep, and exercise to give you tools that will promote wellness and resiliency. You also may want to consider walk/talk therapy, as a way to engage your whole being in the therapeutic process. Lovely Tower Grove Park is only minutes away providing easy access to walking trails.

Creative Expression

Creativity opens pathways for healing. Drawing, painting, journaling, and writing are often encouraged as modes of processing and understanding. You may be sent home with a creative assignment, in order to carry on your work outside of your therapy session and give yourself more time to reflect on what you’ve been learning.
